David diaz is the underdog for the June 28, 2008 bout vs. manny Pacquiao
David Diaz the current WBC Lightweight Champion (135 pounds)
Manny Pacquiao will enter the fight as the favorite. David Diaz will be the underdog as he heads to Las Vegas to take on perhaps the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world today in Manny Pacquiao, who moves up in weight for their 12 round main event for the June 28, 2008 Saturday event on HBO PPV, 9PM ET/6PM PT.
Looking at David Diaz resume, he is a four-time Golden Gloves champ, and a 1996 Olympian .
HIS AMATEUR RECORD:
* Member of the 1996 US Olympic Team as a Light Welterweight. His results were:
o Defeated Jacobo Garcia (Virgin Islands) RSC 3 (0:33)
o Lost to Oktay Urkal (Germany) 6-14
* Won Chicago Golden Gloves four times and the National Golden Gloves three times (1993, 1994 and 1996 National Golden Gloves light welterweight champion)
* Had a record of 75-16 in the amateurs
HIS PROFFESIONAL RECORD:
"Dangerous" David Díaz was bornon June 7, 1976 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He is a professional boxer in the lightweight (135 lb) division. His record is 34-1-1 (17 KOs). He is the current WBC lightweight champion.
MANNY PACQUIAO's win over Marquez gave Pacquiao his eighth over a fighter of Mexican heritage since destroying Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003. A close loss in his first fight to Morales in 2005 and a controversial draw against Marquez the year prior barely served as speed bumps on the road to Pacquiao’s single-handedly terrorizing the red, white and green.
